Choosing a Therapist

Choosing the right therapist during times of stress can be difficult.

Let us assist you in finding a therapist who best meets your needs. Factors to consider include licensure, experience, training, location, hours available, fees, insurance considerations, and other personal preferences. Our goal is to find you a highly qualified experienced therapist, who has successfully treated others with similar problems and best meets your needs and preferences.  When you call us, we will discuss your concerns and preferences, recommend a therapist, and have the therapist call you directly to answer your questions and schedule an appointment, if you wish.

Finding a therapist experienced in your area of concern is important.

Our therapists are licensed, highly trained, experienced, caring psychologists, psychiatrists, marriage and family counselors, psychiatric nurse practitioners, clinical social workers, and psychotherapists, chosen because of their success in treating a variety of problems. Many therapists have advanced training and supervision in areas such as relationship issues, family problems, anxiety, depression, childhood problems, substance abuse, and other difficulties.  Our marriage and couples counselors have successfully dealt with relationship issues, such as diminished affection, jealously, infidelity, anger, and communication difficulties. Our psychiatric nurse practitioners and psychiatrists are experienced in providing evaluation and medication management for anxiety disorders, depression, bipolar disorder, ADHD, and other problems.

Fees and insurance are often a major consideration.

When you call our offices, we will discuss our fees, check your insurance, let you know your possible benefits, and try to find you a therapist on your panel, if you request this.  Many medical insurance plans cover much of the cost of treatment.  Many of our therapists participate on insurance panels, EAPs, HMOs, PPOs, EPOs and POSs including Aetna, Cigna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Healthnet,  Magellan, United Health, GHI, Value Behavioral, UBH, Oxford, Devon, Multiplan, First Health, One Health, Medicare, CHN, PHCS, Beech St., and others.  Fees can be adjusted with consideration for your circumstances. Call our office so we can help to match you with a therapist who fits your needs.  Because number of sessions is often limited with managed-care and managed-care companies often monitor your therapy, some patients choose to use out-of-network benefits or pay directly for therapy, to increase their confidentiality, choose any therapist they want, and increase the flexibility of type of treatment and number of visits available to them. Some plans allow you to choose an out-of-network therapist, who can offer more confidentiality and often longer treatment.

Hours, days available, and locations are another consideration.

We offer convenient, professional locations in Northern New Jersey. Appointments are available weekdays, evenings, Saturdays and Sundays in many locations. Check our Location Page for the most convenient offices for you.

Choosing to enter therapy is an important decision.

It shows that you have the courage to change a difficult situation, determination to make things better, and a willingness to heal and grow. We hope this information will help you choose a therapist you can successfully work with towards your therapeutic goals.
